KAA is a full service law firm advising clients on a range of legal issues. With a total of eleven partners with varied areas of specialization, along with a team of advocates, legal assistants and a full time consultant, KAA is one of the largest legal practices in Uganda.
Our History
Establishment
Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) one of Uganda’s leading and largest independent law firms, celebrates the firm’s 20th anniversary.
Founded in 2001 through the merger of four major law firms. The founding partners were Bart Katureebe, a former Attorney General and Chief Justice Emeritus of the Republic of Uganda; Dr. Sam Mayanja (Ph.D), who served as Secretary of the Uganda Development Bank Board for over a decade and now the State Minister for Lands in the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development; Oscar Kambona, who headed and managed the Uganda Tax Bureau; and Dr. Elly Karuhanga (Ph.D), a senior lawyer who has served as a member of Parliament, Chairman of the Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, Chairman of DFCU Limited and currently the Chairman of the Private Sector Foundation and the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Seychelles to Uganda.

Partners
The founders were shortly joined by Peter Kabatsi, formerly Director of Public Posecutions, the longest serving Solicitor General of Uganda and President of the International Law Commission, Dr Kallu Kalumiya formerly Director at the United Nations, and Joseph Matsiko, formerly Director of Civil Litigation and the Managing Partner at KAA.
Merger & Partnerships
The firm has since grown exponentially and in 2017 admitted 5 new partners, namely Zulaika Kasajja, Augustine Idoot, Elison Karuhanga, Jet Tumwebaze and Bruce Musinguzi. With 11 Partners and a total staff headcount of over 45 people, KAA has continued to grow in pursuit of the founders’ dream of making KAA the leading and largest law firm in Uganda, with legal specialisation and a wide international reach.

From its inception, the firm has provided exceptional legal services, and has handled some of the largest and most complex matters in commercial transactions, litigation, arbitration and taxation. Currently under the leadership of Joseph Matsiko as the Managing partner, the firm has 35 legal staff each of whom possess unique skill sets including stellar academic accomplishments, commitment to a client-focused work culture, and a track record of successful outcomes for our clients across the various sectors and practice areas in which we specialize and consistently excel in.
